Commitment
The state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity,
etc.
We, the People, recognize that we have responsibilities as
well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which
only asks what's in it for me, a freedom without a commitment to others, a
freedom without love or charity or duty or patriotism, is unworthy of our
founding ideals, and those who died in their defense.

My thoughts on this quote are that are finding ideals are
based on helping one another and ideals other than helping each other is an
ideal that we raised to think of. An example for this quote would be that if
you someone struggling you go and help them, not knowing what the situation is
and not wanting anything out of it is an ideal we were taught.
